Mike Doyle Talks About Valley Games’ Big City

Mike Doyle is doing a lot of art design work for Valley Games and its lengthy list of rereleases and new games. On his Art Play blog, Doyle debuts the cover for Big City and talks about the concept he was trying to achieve with this design.

I think he’s spot on with the design, and if the components and remainder of the design are executed similarly, I could see this game appearing in adult gift shops like Brookstone or The Sharper Image. The classy, retro look screams “gift for my boss or random person drawn out of a hat at the office party.”

From the cover, it looks Art Deco-ish, without being squarely in that style.  Maybe more 40’s - 50’s than 30’s.  Alas, my workplace blocks blogspot, so I can’t read Mike’s own commentary.

It looks great!  Possibly his best yet?  Now if Valley Games would only allow him to redesign their logo!

I really like it… I’m still on the fence about getting a 2nd copy (as I own the first one) - but this art design may tip me over the edge. Now if he does art-deco designs for the plastic buildings, I’m in!

FWIW, I’m more of a fan of “Metropolis”, and those butt-ugly buildings REALLY need a face lift.

Face2Face was supposed to come out with the remake, but they seem to have stalled.
