New Name Needed for Snow Tails

As noted in November 2008, Asmodee will publish a new edition of the Lamont brothers’ Snow Tails in Q2 2009 – but Asmodee doesn’t think that the Snow Tails name is appropriate for an international audience. Therefore the company has announced a contest on its website that invites people to submit a new, more dynamic, more immediately accessible name. Entries must be received by midnight on Dec. 4, presumably midnight in France.

Update, Dec. 30: On Dec. 30, Asmodee announced the winning name: Too Mush. François Rouzé was one of 800 who submitted entries, and for being the first to submit this name he wins a salmon, Jack London’s White Fang, a photo of Alaska governor Sarah Palin, and other prizes.

Any Mamet fans out there?

Why confuse everyone just leave it the same.

Terry! I thought you had resigned from BGN, good to see you posting again but I must disagree with you.

The name “Snow Tails” needs to go! I will enter the contest!

Submitted my suggestion - “Mush!”

Posted by Jon Theys on Dec 4, 2008 at 12:35 PM | #

Is there any sort of hidden meaning to this name that makes it internationally inappropriate?  Or do they just think it can be improved upon?

Jon, “Mush” is a good choice, but there’s also an old Alan Moon game with that title.  That doesn’t eliminate it from consideration, but there’s a good chance the Lamonts wouldn’t want to recycle an old title.

Has anyone suggested Iditarod?

Posted by Larry Levy on Dec 4, 2008 at 01:56 PM | #

Yeah, but it’s not exactly catchy, elegant or easy to say if appealing to an international audience is the goal.

I like “Arctic Dash”.  Excellent selection. That sounds cool, its sets a mood and tells a bit what the game is about.  “Snow Tails” was a ridiculous name.  I wasn’t going to get anyone to play that!

Change it to “Arctic Dash”, however and I might even be persuaded to buy the game!

Someone over at Spielbox suggested Pod Racer…

I never even noticed that.  Now I want an Armaments expansion.

And the winner of the Snow Tails renaming contest, as reported by Asmodee on Dec. 30, is...Too Mush.

Awkward name.

Posted by Eric Knauer on Dec 30, 2008 at 11:16 AM | #

Winning name is blah!..........I really thought my name of Blizzard Wizard was much better. BTW, I already own the game so I didn’t need another copy and surely didn’t need anything with Sarah Palin!

Is it just me, or is the original name superior to the new one?  Even “Mush” is better than “Too Mush”.  Weak.

Posted by Eric Knauer on Dec 30, 2008 at 11:27 AM | #

Wow, that’s...pretty bad.  Will someone *please* explain to me what was wrong with Snow Tails in the first place?

Posted by Larry Levy on Dec 30, 2008 at 11:40 AM | #

Well, I don’t “get” Snow Tails (can someone explain it to me? Is there a hidden pun or something?), and for a while I even mistakenly called it Snow Trails.  Too Mush is ok, but not really catchy.
