New Settlers of Catan Scenario Pack: Chaffenberch / Renaissance
At Spiel 07 in Essen, Germany, the Österreichisches Spiele Museum (Austrian Game Museum) is releasing a pair of scenarios for The Settlers of Catan under the Spielen in Österreich label.
The “Building of Chaffenberch Castle” scenario by Heike Risthaus introduces contributions to the castle for prestige and victory points, a travelling tradesman that enables his owner to trade goods 2:1, and a knight tournament in which one can win victory points.
“Renaissance in Styria” by Stefan Risthaus introduces a commodity stock exchange, custom posts on trade routes, and guilds in the cities. The robber demands tax payment instead of goods, and in the building phase you can acquire achievements which facilitate or allow commodities trade, the buying of development cards, or income.
The pricetag for the double-sided map? Nothing beyond entry to Spiel. “We plan to make it a free giveaway for all players in exchange for wearing a button that publicizes our game fair in Austria,” says Ferdinand de Cassan.

Then I guess you need to find someone who will slap on a button for you, Mark! More seriously, since this is a promotional item for Austria, I doubt you’ll find it in a retail environment. I’ll ask the publisher and get back to you… Posted by W. Eric Martin on Aug 16, 2007 at 10:48 AM | #

Ideally they’d be willing to release two versions of the .pdf files, one with the German text, and one version without any text at all but just the artwork so that English, Spanish, Japanese, etc. players worldwide could translate it into their own language. Mark, here’s one answer from the folks at Spielen in Österreich: “Maybe walk to the local Austrian Embassy and sing the Austrian National Anthem.” They might have another solution later… Posted by W. Eric Martin on Aug 16, 2007 at 02:10 PM | #

Anyone even play all the expansions they own? I feel like a completest just buying them. Still vanilla Settlers is the only way to play. Posted by Michael Chapel on Aug 16, 2007 at 02:50 PM | #
