New Thurn & Taxis Expansion: All Ways Lead to Rome
The 2006 Spiel des Jahres winner is expanding once again with the release of Thurn & Taxis: Alle Wege führen nach Rom (All ways lead to Rome). Karen and Andreas Seyfarth have packed two expansions into one box: In the first, the players send their chaplains towards Rome in five beautiful wooden carriages and try to arrive at the best possible moment in order to win an audience with the Pope. The second expansion, “In Amt und Würden,” adds additional ways to draw city cards, earn victory points, and even place new houses.

Through the end of 2007, the expansion will be sold only in larger stores and only as a package with the main game. In 2008, the expansion will be available on its own through the usual suspects.

I hope this is better than Power and Glory which, unexpectedly I really did not care for. It made the game draaag. Posted by Jonathan Degann on Dec 5, 2007 at 04:09 PM | #

Is this going to be a stand alone title? Posted by Ryan Bretsch on Dec 5, 2007 at 05:21 PM | #

Ryan, from the description I’d say no - it’s being sold as a package with the base game, and the mechanics sound like add-ons to me. pk Posted by Patrick Korner on Dec 5, 2007 at 05:36 PM | #

No, sir, you must have the base game in order to use this expansion, as was the case with the first Thurn & Taxis expansion. Eric Posted by W. Eric Martin on Dec 5, 2007 at 05:36 PM | #

I don’t understand - It’s available in 2007, but you have to buy the base game too separately? I love T&T, one of my favorite games of all time. I thought the first expansion was great, I’m drooling over this new one. Posted by Phil Schwarzmann on Dec 5, 2007 at 07:26 PM | #

Phil, the Spielbox article mentions that this expansion is being sold as part of a package with the base game at stores like Kaufhof in Germany through the end of 2007. It will be available on its own in 2008. So this expansion is being used as a sweetener for those German families who have yet to pick up this game and need an incentive to give games for the holidays. That’s my best guess anyway… Posted by W. Eric Martin on Dec 5, 2007 at 07:39 PM | #

It’s pretty common here to sell multiple games or expansions as packages at the large department stores.
