News Flash: Funagain Buys Eagle Games Assets - An Interview with Nick Medinger of Funagain

Boardgame News has conducted an interview with Nick Medinger, the Marketing Director of Funagain, about Funagain acquiring the assets of Eagle Games.  Here is the interview:

Rick Thornquist: A number of games were not mention in your press release - Civilization, Railroad Tycoon and Struggle of Empires.  Were none of these included in the sale?

Nick Medinger: Civilization is currently out of print. Civ4 is one of the future titles from Eagle and what happens to it has yet to be determined but as of right now there is no 1st printing Civ stock.

There is a little Railroad Tycoon left. As it was Eagle’s most popular game there is very little left in proportion to the demand for the game. It was not on the list because it’s MSRP has not changed, it remains $59.99.

Struggle of Empires is still available and not including it was simply an oversight. The new MSRP for that game is $31.95.

Both RRT, and Struggle were included with the sale as there was stock.

Rick Thornquist: If a certain game sells out, is there a possibility of it being reprinted?

Nick Medinger: There is that possibility, however none of that is set in stone. Funagain is trying to be very open with this process as there is still a LOT to digest from winning the auction. What we know for sure right now is that we now own that inventory and will sell it as we normally would. As the old contracts were with Eagle Games Inc., and Funagain did NOT buy Eagle Games Inc., any re-printing would mean negotiation with all the parties involved, since the game would now be printed by someone other than Eagle.

Rick Thornquist: If people are looking for parts for their Eagle games, who should they contact?

Nick Medinger: They should first contact Funagain as we control the inventory. If for some reason we cannot replace parts (and I can’t imagine why we wouldn’t be able to) we’ll work something out.

Rick Thornquist: What will happen with the Eagle Games website? Will it continue?  Will it still sell Eagle games?  Will it supply parts?

Nick Medinger: The Eagle Games website was not included in the auction and as such was not purchased by Funagain. It was purchased separately by Keith Blume and he’ll be best equipped to answer most of your questions. I bet that Funagain will end up working with Keith closely to fill parts orders and any other way we can work together and neither of us want to see customers left out in the cold.

Rick Thornquist: What will happen with the Eagle Booth at Essen?

Nick Medinger: I don’t know. Again Funagain did not buy Eagle Games Inc. and as such any booth that they would have pre-paid, or planned on paying for at Essen is still under their control. I can only assume that as Eagle has ceased operations that booth has been sold to someone else, or that the convention organizers have dealt with it. However I honestly have no idea and Glenn Drover would be a much better person to ask.

Rick Thornquist: Thanks for your answers on these.

Nick Medinger: Glad to help clear things up. I know this is of extreme interest to those in the community and we’re more than happy with anything we can do to help shed light on the situation. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Editor’s Note:  Many thanks to Nick Medinger for taking the time to answer these questions.
