Many fine games on this list. Hard to recommend any three without knowing the criteria. I haven’t played them all, but I’m particularly fond of Le Havre, Metropolys, Chicago Express and Dominion so I hope one of these makes the cut. Posted by Jacob Lee on Jun 13, 2009 at 01:13 AM | #

If is called Meeples Choice Award, shouldn’t it be the games with the most meeples included? Municipium should win, hands-down. :) Posted by Scott Nelson on Jun 13, 2009 at 04:52 PM | #

It’s hard to imagine how some say 2008 was a mediocre year. Oh well, different strokes and all that.... Posted by Joe Casadonte on Jun 13, 2009 at 08:57 PM | #

Joe, I just played Dominion again yesterday and our one game was an hour-long snoozathon (at least for me) that left me liking the game even less. Other popular games that are only “meh” for me include Chicago Express, Ghost Stories, Metropolys, and Pandemic, and I actively avoid BSG. That doesn’t leave much. I share your love for Le Havre and really like Steel Driver, Tinners’, and Snow Tails. So the year is far from a total loss, but it pales in comparison to ‘06 and ‘07. Overall, it’s definitely a substandard year for new games for me. But as you say, different strokes. Posted by Larry Levy on Jun 14, 2009 at 11:24 AM | #
