Origins Gets a New Name
The Origins International Game Expo (more commonly known as “Origins") will be renamed Origins Game Fair (and hence “Origins") starting in 2008. Origins organizer GAMA plans to add food vendors and additional areas for game demonstration for which admission will cost a mere $1. For more details, read this ICv2 article on the name change.

I’m not following this. “To create a fair element, GAMA will add food vendors and more game demo areas in an area for which admission will be only $1.00. Fair attendees will also be admitted to the exhibit hall.” So for $1, anyone can walk in off the street and go to the exhibit hall and bonus demo areas? If that’s right, that is decidedly bold. More traffic, more expo hall sales, higher expo hall booth prices perhaps, and less collected at the gate. They must presume that the number of hardcore gamers who want to go to non-exhibit hall locations and stay and play for all hours and will pay the extra $49 for the privilege is high enough to sustain them. And having been to Origins for the past two years, I think they might be right. Posted by Sean Weitner on Jul 24, 2007 at 11:18 AM | #
