Oriol Comas and Xavier Garriga: Playing in Spain - Weblogs - February 2006

As in the majority of countries, in Spain we are living a strong fever of weblogs. As a result of this trend, we have in this moment in Spain a good bunch of blogs where some of the Spanish players explain their visions about the game scene. In this column we will try to make an overview of the most important blogs in Spain.

Juegos de mesa (Board games) by Andrés Herranz.
He mixes the most important news about games in Spain with some reviews of the hot products. It’s also the website of the annual critic awards and the annual gamers awards in Spain. Unfortunately, is not as often updated as it should be.

Te toca jugar (It’s your turn) by Fran Garea
Being himself an author, Fran studies the inner mechanics of the games, and gives his views regarding the bare bones of the games. In this interesting website we can find hard analysis of classics like Hacker or Illuminati and also modern games like Attika. Fran also writes about game philosophy, like the importance of luck factor, or presents his new projects.

Juegos de mesa (Board games) by Jorge Gómez
Jorge is a specialist in abstract games and he uses to write about not well known games, so his website is very interesting because is different enough of the rest. His last entries have been about Eleusis or Arimaa.

Charlas desde Mecatol Rex (Talks from Mecatol Rex) by Bascuñana
In the beginning it was a website only about Twilight Imperium, but with the past of time his author has extended his influence to other games. The last entries are about Confrontation, Quicksand and Dune.

Aquí se viene a jugar (We are here to play) by Bowie
The author explains the last games he has played, and we also can find photos of the sessions. The last entries are about Heroscape and El Grande.

Diario de Wk (Wkr’s Journal) by José Carlos de Diego
José Carlos de Diego is the editor of the now disappeared games online magazine “Tabula. In this blog, José Carlos studies the games that he has played and presents the projects that he is developing. The last entries are about Kreta and Twilight Imperium III (with a bunch of house rules that he offers to help balancing the game). Also, he is the author of bsk, a huge portal about games that has files, translations, reviews, news and also hosts some of the above blogs.

La isla ludópata (Gaming addict’s isle) by by Bones
This is a website about free games. He took the idea of the Michael Schacht website, where he saw some free games. He says that is a good way to promote the hobby to give some opportunities to play games without spending a lot of money.

That’s all for now. Of course, all these pages are written in Spanish, so you will have to remember what you learnt in your old “Spanish 101” courses.
