Pampas Railroads – New Print Run in the Works (Maybe)
Titles from Winsome Games typically come and go in a blink due to their small print runs, but sometimes they stick around for a while – as with TransAmerica, a gussied-up version of Winsome’s Iron Road – and sometimes they come back when you least expect it.
Another print run of Pampas Railroads, a 2001 release from Winsome that has players fighting for control of six railroads in Argentina, might be in the works. Pampas fan JC Lawrence is organizing the reprint effort, but in order for the new edition to become a reality, one hundred copies need to be preordered. This edition will be identical to the original except that it won’t include the special wipe-off crayons, so you’ll need erasable markers or a big box of colored cubes. For details on the cost and how to order, see this BoardGameGeek thread.

Thanks for the (unexpected) publicity Eric! I’m also organising a group order for non-USA buyers of Wabash Cannonball, another excellent Winsome Games title. Winsome Games only sells within the USA and only accepts payment via money order, which makes getting their games overseas difficult. I’m bridging that gap. Not that the news of any Winsome game reprint isn’t delightful, but could you possibly enact an editorial guideline limiting the site’s use of the term “identical” to cases where one thing actually is identical to another? Phrases that could be substituted where the test for identicalness fails include (but are not limited to): “Nearly identical,” “extremely similar,” “almost but not quite indistinguishable,” “very close but not really identical,” “nothing alike whatsoever,” etc., etc. Posted by Josh Adelson on Mar 19, 2008 at 03:09 PM | #

How about “identical...except” as was used above? Posted by W. Eric Martin on Mar 19, 2008 at 03:42 PM | #

Well sure, go ahead and keep using it. I was merely lobbying for keeping the quality of “identical” strong. For those to whom special wipe-off crayons are the crowning achievement in the whole of the history of gaming accessories, the two editions will never be considered remotely “identical.” Posted by Josh Adelson on Mar 19, 2008 at 07:50 PM | #
