Patrick Korner: The Gathering Storm
So, how ya been?
Yes, it’s me again. I know, I know, it’s been a while. But here I am, rising Phoenix-like from the ashes of too many good intentions to list, with the firm intention of posting semi-regularly during the Gathering of Friends - or at least for the duration that I’ll be there, which is, as usual, far shorter than I’d like. But such is the life of a married man with full-time job - how I wish I could be a jet-setting retiree like some other Canadian (with great hair) I could mention, but alas such is not to be.
And so here we are.
I haven’t actually gotten to Columbus yet, so this calm-before-the-storm missive finds me sitting in the Maple Leaf Lounge at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, waiting for my flight to be called. Thankfully, Pearson has completed their long-overdue renovations / construction at Terminal 1, which means that connecting through here isn’t quite the dog’s breakfast it used to be. And thanks to having flown far too many miles last year, I get to wait in the relative comfort of the lounge, where at least the coffee is free.
And I need coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.
Y’see, us West Coast folks end up with a curious choice when flying eastward to Toronto: Get up at an insane hour and fly super-early, or stay up late and take the red-eye.
Me, I chose the red-eye (and therewith immediately claim exemption for any text in this note that might not be up to my usual spirited wit and wisdom - I’m friggin’ tired, folks). So I left Vancouver at 10:30 PM local time.
It’s now...(checks watch)...7:30 AM here. I slept for 2 hours on the plane (and thank the good Lord for that, I’d be a complete zombie otherwise!). So, if my math is right, I got 2 hours of sleep last night. I’m off to a good start, that’ll be my average for the next five days anyway…
I had hoped to be able to access the editing page for BGN via my Blackberry (thereby giving y’all up-to-the-second updates on a far more frequent basis), but alas the javascript (or something, not totally sure what) is beyond the handheld’s capacities. So I’ll have to see about adjourning to my room once in a while to jot something down.
Or steal Eric’s Mac and use that instead.
I think it’s time for me to head on over to the gate, so this’ll be it for now. My plan for Columbus? Arrive at 10 AM. I should be sitting down to my first game, oh, about 45 minutes after that. :)
Back later!
