QWG Games Splitting Up – Sort Of
QWG Games was formed in 2006 when Dutch game publishers Quined Games and White Goblin Games joined forces to release a Dutch version of the Ystari title Caylus. Over the past three years QWG has released a few dozen other titles, from Dutch editions of Amyitis and Galaxy Trucker to original titles such as Cavum, Bloom and the Spiel 2009 release Carson City.
That said, Spiel 09 also saw the release of Fish Fish Fish, the first solo effort from Quined Games since 2005’s Siena, and according to Bordspel‘s Erwin Broens, both companies plan to release titles on their own in the future. Quined currently plans to release two titles annually, one a family game along the lines of Fish Fish Fish and the other a heavier title for gamers. White Goblin Games has Dutch versions of Endeavor and Macao – the latter due out January 2010 – on its schedule, along with a 2010 co-production of Åse and Henrik Berg’ Rattus with HUCH! & friends. Says Broens, “They will also distribute alea titles in the Netherlands, with the exception of Puerto Rico and San Juan as Ravensburger Nederland will keep these.”
As for QWG Games, that company will continue to exist to publish both new printings of its existing titles and expansions for those titles, such as the Pandemic: Virus Alarm expansion and Jambo expansions.

The planning for Quined is slightly different. They plan on releasing a game with the weight of something like Yspahan in the first half of the year (next year that title will be Chocolatl), and a heavy strategy game around Essen. The family game type Fish Fish Fish is not something they plan on doing regularly. Posted by Surya Van Lierde on Dec 3, 2009 at 06:46 AM | #

Thanks for the clarification, Surya! The description I had for Quined was a family game and a heavier game; Yspahan would still fit the family category from my point of view, although it’s pushing at that border… Eric Posted by W. Eric Martin on Dec 3, 2009 at 01:45 PM | #

I agree, but it should be clear that there’s still an obvious difference between Fish Fish Fish and Yspahan :) Posted by Surya Van Lierde on Dec 4, 2009 at 04:49 AM | #
