Rio Grande Games Picks Up Four Titles at CHITAG 2009

Jay Tummelson participated in a game design contest at CHITAG 2009, held in late November at the Navy Pier in Chicago, and while he had promised in advance to publish one of the designs that would be presented to him, as contest organizer Nate Scheidler notes on BGG, Tummelson ended up choosing four winners from among the finalists. The designs and designers who will see their work in print from Rio Grande at some point are:

  • Cavemen, Quest for Fire, by Daniel Cassar
  • Judy Martin’s Quilt Show, by Steve Bennett and Judy Martin
  • Oktoberfest, by Joshua Balvin
  • Spin-monkeys, by Mark Sellmeyer
Jay Tummelson has already committed to another design contest in 2010 at CHITAG, and Scheidler expects to have details on entry in February or March 2010.

Congrats to all the winning designers, and especially to Steve Bennett who has reviewed a number of games on BGN in the past. (His wife’s name is the same as my mother’s, so I have one customer in mind should the published title remain the same as the prototype!) For those thinking about entering the design contest in 2010, Bennett described the evaluation process and the entire experience on BGG.

"at some point” is the keyword here, I think. While Rio Grande mostly does a good job with their own projects, they tend to get quite a bit delays. Veritas, anyone?
