Ryan B.: Wednesday Columnist Redux
This is going to be a very short column but I will be announcing in it that I will be “hanging up the spurs” as your Wednesday Columnist.
This will take place next week, as Rick will have a brand new literary talent lined up for you. I know who it is. And you should get excited about it. I know I will… a good man and a well-known game convention personality is coming soon to a theatre near you!
I won’t be going too far away, however, as I will be transitioning to becoming a Boardgame News “At Large” Columnist. In objectively assessing the situation, a regular weekly columnist should be able to provide a broader band of coverage than I am capable of. A unique perspective can only take one so far. I have two or three main game focuses which revolve around:
1. Anything Days of Wonder puts out…
2. Anything Eagle Games puts out…
3. Any other game that fits the description of a general, fun, mass-audience produced whirlwind round of evening entertainment!
So sometimes, after two years of writing now, it becomes hard to come up with topics that will be interesting for you, the reader. Because in the end, it really is about you. I guess I could get up here and ramble poetically about Rio Grande Games or something like that. But let’s be honest. YOU know more about Rio Grande games than I do.
And because this is about you, I am certainly not going to do any disservice by you, just to fill column space for the week. So it is time to turn over the reins to someone with fresh topics, fresh ideas and I am proud to say that you will soon be getting that… in the traditional high quality spirit that Rick Thornquist and Boardgame News have come to represent.
Life is about looking to the future. And I think you will have a sunny, exceptionally bright future coming to you every single Wednesday now.
As for me, the future is equally bright and I very much look forward to contributing as an “At Large” Columnist.
So in the end, it is hardly about “goodbye” for me.... it is more about saying “thank you” to all of you… and to Boardgame News for the opportunity to write to you as a friend.... and to write as an inaugural weekly columnist.
So till next time (and there will be a next time soon!)
Peace.
Ryan B.

Thanks for the columns you’ve given us, Ryan. Your unique perspective will be missed, but I hope to see some interesting things from you in the future in your role as At Large columnist. Posted by Larry Levy on Jul 12, 2006 at 08:19 AM | #
