Sheep and Soup: Two Games from a New Designer
Jean Marc Courtil is debuting as a game designer this year with releases from two companies: Bobby Sitter, due in July from Asyncron, and La Soupe à Gertrude from Cocktail Games in September. The latter title is a bidding game in which players are trying to get three different vegetables cards in their hand to win. Lots are put up for bid with one card exposed and two cards face-down. Everyone can bid on a lot with the money cards in their hands, and one of the players even knows exactly what that lot contains. Winning bids are distributed a la Traumfabrik among the other players. Once you have enough veggies in hand, you win.
Bobby Sitter is a speed/observation game in which cards are revealed one by one and players have to react in the right ways. Flip over a sheep, for example, and the first player to claim the sheep pawn scores a point – unless there’s a wolf in the background of the card, in which case you’ll be penalized if you grab anything. As with Jungle Speed keep players with long fingernails away from the table…
