Spain’s Game of the Year Award Finalists

The finalists for the Spanish Game of the Year award - the Juego del Año - JdA 2006 - have been announced.  The finalists, along with their designers and Spanish publishers, are:

Bucaneer by Stefan Dorra (Mercurio)
Ca$h’n Gun$ by Ludovic Maublanc (Crómola)
Exploradores (Lost Cities) by Reiner Knizia (Devir)
Pingüinos & CIA (Hey! That’s my Fish!) by Alvydas Jakeliunas and Günter Cornett (Devir)
Railroad Tycoon by Martin Wallace and Glenn Drover (Edge)
Tombouctou by Dirk Henn (Mercurio)

Two special awards were also announced.  These were:

Ã?gora Barcelona by Oriol Comas & Jep Ferret (Bravander & Ayuntamiento de Barcelona)
This game was given a special award due to the game being designed by Spanish designers as well as being published and manufactured in Spain.  Also, according to the news release, “This very beautiful and good game shows the way to future games in Spain”.

Danza del Huevo (Eiertanz) by Roberto Fraga (Haba)
This game got a special award because “This very original children game is played by everybody, from children to adults. Terrible funny, it is a very imaginative design”.

The winner of the JdA 2006 will be announced at noon on October 15, 2006 during the Second Spanish Game Meeting (II Encuentro Nacional de Juegos de Mesa) in Córdoba, Spain.
