Teasers for the New Age of Steam Expansions from Bézier Games
Ted Alspach has sent along the following clues for the upcoming Age of Steam expansions from Bézier Games. Yes, expansions plural. Here we go:
1) There are SIX maps being announced in three different, double-sided expansion sets.
2) The number of players for two of these maps is different than any other AoS map.
3) One map is a location larger than any other (Earthbound) map, and another is smaller than any other map.
4) None of the maps are politically incorrect.
5) All of the maps are designed to work with “classic” (2nd Edition) Age of Steam, as well as the new Mayfair Age of Steam.
6) All the maps are real locations and are (somewhat) historically accurate.
7) One of the maps allows for a full game of Age of Steam in less than 30 minutes.
8) The rule changes on all the maps are simple, yet have dramatic impact on gameplay and strategy.
9) Pineapples play an important role on one of the maps.
10) All of the maps will be announced the week of Monday, July 23rd.
Start speculating about those pineapples, then tune in next week to see whether you were right!

Pineapples=Age of Steam Hawaii? Posted by Sean Brown on Jul 18, 2007 at 02:44 PM | #

That’s certainly my thought. The railroads in Hawaii qualify as some of the smallest in the world (both in gauge and length). Posted by David Reed on Jul 18, 2007 at 05:04 PM | #

My first thought was Hawaii, my second was the Philippines. But Hawaii would be about right for a real place that’s smaller than any previous map and is a 2-player 30 minute game. :) pk Posted by Patrick Korner on Jul 18, 2007 at 05:49 PM | #

Hmm, apparently it’s Puerto Rico for pineapples, unless we’re replacing bananas for some reason on St Lucia, or including Hawaii on the huge America map. I couldn’t find any mention of pineapples for Jamaica or Barbados as a specific export, but it might also just be my poor internet search skills. Barbados wins for smallest landmass (431 sq km). Ha! You’re all wrong! It will be Age of Steam: Vatican City!! As for the pineapple connection, perhaps you missed the fact that last week the CEO of the Dole Corporation was granted an audience with His Holiness. Seems they’re trying to get the sacramental wine used during Mass switched to pina coladas! Posted by Larry Levy on Jul 23, 2007 at 04:23 PM | #

Larry, a funny suggestion, but, as a Catholic deacon, I can assure that the law is set in stone about the wine for Mass coming from grapes. I still stand by my guess. Unless it’s San Marino. Posted by David Reed on Jul 23, 2007 at 10:53 PM | #

Bah, I lose, it’s Barbados. I presume from the pineapple appearing on the Barbados Penny during Colonial times. Why licorice and not blackberries I wonder? Posted by Sean Brown on Jul 24, 2007 at 01:01 PM | #

Okay… Barbados! I would not have guessed that in a million years, but it sounds interesting. Sean, I was wondering the same thing as I read the write-up… blackberries seemed the obvious choice for black cubes. They could be genetically-engineered blackberries!
