Tom Vasel: That’s it!  I’m moving.

So in nine days, I’m moving.

The move isn’t that far, or even that big of a deal in some ways.  For one thing, I’m moving only about a mile (as the crow flies), and I’m not leaving Korea, like some of the teachers.  Also, the move should go fairly well, as for only $400 the movers will come in to our house, pack everything up, move it, unpack it, and then clean the new house.  Talk about a great deal!

On the other hand, we’re moving from a 600 sq. ft. apartment to a 1750 sq. ft. apartment, which IS a big deal.  Not only will it have two bathrooms (essential when you consider I’m the only male in a household of five), but we have an extra room to be used as a game room!

I’m excited about this; and while other parts of the house certainly take precedence, the thought of having a place to store and play games is certainly exciting.  I plan to leave about 30% of my games (my collection is just shy of 1000 games) at school - those that are educational and/or are good to use in the board game club, and bring the rest home.  I’ll look for suitable decorations (it’s the only part of the house I’m allowed to touch) and make sure that I have least one good table and chairs.

Again, this is a nine days away, but I’m fairly excited about the entire move.  We’ll also have roof access, which will allow me to put up a picnic table over the summer and let us play games on the roof, while watching the kids splash around in a wading pool.  On Sundays, we’ll be able to have fellowships at our house - with the kids playing in the MUCH larger room they’ll have, and the adults scampering off to my game room of joy.  I’ll be able to play games like Heroscape and 7 Ages, and let them sit out without wondering if the Terror That Destroys All will be able to get to them.  I’ll have a guest room for when folks come to Korea to visit - a place where they can stay and relax - cheaper than a hotel!

So if I don’t type much this week, or crank out enough reviews, you’ll know why - I’m moving in a very short period of time.  In fact, because next week will be so busy with us preparing to move, I’ll let you know now that I won’t blog next Monday.  Between final exams at school, moving, and dealing with my daughter graduating from kindergarten, I’ve got a full platter.

And listen to the Dice Tower this week - I think you’ll enjoy the top ten list - of obscure games, in which I’m joined by the master of obscure games - Morgan Dontanville.

So in the meantime, got any good ideas for a 17’ by 13’ room?

Until next time,

Tom Vasel

I can’t imagine 6 people living in 600 square feet.  Well, I can, but it seems like it would be insanely cramped.  Congratulations on getting the bigger space!
