The 2007 Board Game Internet Awards

By Yehuda Berlinger
December 14, 2007

For the last two years, Gone Gaming ran the annual Board Game Internet Awards, which recognizes excellence in the online board gaming world. I played a large part in organizing these awards, and you can still view the 2006 and 2005 BGIA winners on Gone Gaming.

Gone Gaming will not be running the awards this year. After checking with the Gone Gaming staff, and with the enthusiastic support of the staff of this site, I’ve decided to move the awards onto Boardgame News.

Award Categories
The BGIAs honor the best (English language) online boardgaming websites and resources as nominated by Boardgame News readers, and will be awarded for the following categories:

How This Works
We will post separate entries on BGN, one for each of the categories listed above. To nominate a site or article, simply respond to the appropriate post with your nomination before the deadline (see the rules, below). Note that you may nominate your own article or website.

After receiving the nominations, the crack staff of Boardgame News will review the nominated sites and vote on them. The votes will be collated and ranked, and the winners will be posted to this site in January 2008.

Winners and runners-up will be able to place an image proclaiming their win on their site. There may be up to five runners-up in each category.

Rules
1. Valid sites for this award should primarily cover modern boardgaming, including Euro-style and wargaming. Sites that primarily cover old-style board games (such as Chess), CCGs, RPGs, poker, or miniatures are not eligible. In case of doubt, the BGN staff will rule on the validity of a site.

1a. Sites that require payment to access will not be considered.

1b. Sites that require registration to access may be considered.

1c. Hall of Fame winners are ineligible in the category for which they hold Hall of Fame status. The current Hall of Fame winners are:

  • Best game resource site: BoardGameGeek
  • Best publisher site: Days of Wonder
  • Best game club site: East Tennessee Gamers
  • Best online gaming site: SpielByWeb
  • Best podcast/videocast: Board Games With Scott
2. Sites will be judged based on their English language content. Unfortunately, we are not able to judge non-English content at this time.

3. A site nomination will be deemed invalid if we say so. Invalid nominations may be removed, in order to avoid clutter.

4. You can nominate a site in more than one category. However, please nominate a site in a category only if it is appropriate.

5. A site should be nominated only once in a category. Before nominating a site, please check to see whether or not it has already been nominated. Duplicate nominations may be removed, in order to avoid clutter. Remember: You are not voting for a site; you are only nominating a site.

6. Boardgame News may not be nominated in any category except handsomest editor. Sites by Boardgame News staff members or contributors may be nominated.

7. A nomination must be in the following format:

For a site:

  • Site name
  • URL with hyperlink
Example:
  • Best resource site
  • Boardgame News
  • http://www.boardgamenews.com
For an article:
  • Site name
  • Title of Post
  • Post URL with hyperlink
Example:
  • Best humorous article
  • Boardgame News
  • foo post
  • http://www.boardgamenews.com/foo+post
8. If your site is nominated but you do not want it to be included in the voting, please send us an email with your site name, URL, and a statement that you do not wish to be nominated.

9. Nominations close at 5 AM (EST) at Tuesday, Jan 1, 2008. The awards will be announced by 5 AM (EST) at Tuesday, Jan 8, 2008.
