And since the world’s attention is focused on the Gathering of Friends, another episode of The Dice Tower!

In this episode, I give a review of Byzantium by Martin Wallace, and Joe talks abou Silent War.  We enter into the last week of our Nature of the Beast contest, and have our weekly news both from Rick and Moritz.  Segments this time include our websites of the month, as well as a short discussion on conventions.  Finally, we top the episode off with our top ten board games for a high school board game club.  We have the show available in the MP3 format. SPOILER ALERT FOR TOP 10!!!!....

Good top 10 list.  Matches many of the ones kids enjoy in our H.S. club.

They like Conquest, but it is just a bit long to fit within the time we have.

Shadows is a surprise, I haven’t brought it out in club yet, but will have to try it soon.  I would think Nexus Ops would be good as it is a wargame that plays much faster than some, but it isn’t requested as often as others.

I get many requests for me to bring in Star Wars Risk, so that is popular here.  (I don’t store any of my games at school, just a few the club owns...) In-class for short free time periods, Fairy Tail is a hit among my honors students.  Memoir is good, but I don’t usually bring many 2 player games, since I’m usually the only one teaching new games… Joe’s mostly seem to be rather time-intensive or rule-intensive for the format of our club.  (We meet from 2:45pm to 4:30pm, so only have just under 2 hours.)
