The Princes of Machu Picchu – Gerdts Returns Sans Rondel

Mac Gerdts is breaking tradition in 2008, publishing a game without eggertspiele and without a rondel. The new game, The Princes of Machu Picchu, has the players controlling Incan families escaping from Spanish persecution to the high altitude hideaway.

Players take actions by moving their game stones around the city. “For example,” says Gerdts, “if a player’s game stone enters the goldsmith’s quarter, the player can produce gold; if it enters the Central Plaza, the player can trade goods. Llamas will help you to move further, if you want to reach a more distant place (similar to paying resources/points for progressing further on the rondel).” You win the game by either sacrificing the most to the gods or by turning traitor and revealing the location of the city to the Spaniards.

The Princes of Machu Picchu is for 2-6 players, is due out at Spiel 08, and will be published by PD-Games, which was involved with the co-production for Gerdts’ 2007 title Hamburgum.

Sounds very interesting, yet again.  Gerdts is a must-buy for me until he proves otherwise, so I’m hoping this will make him 4 for 4.  I’m curious to see if the city winds up working something like an extended rondel.

That was my thought as well. A 2d rondel.
