Tom Vasel: Game Contest # 1
Hello once again from Korea!
Somewhat at a loss of what to talk about this week, I instead decided to put up an easy contest challenging my three readers to guess the games matching each number below. I took a snippet from the rules, and hopefully that will allow you to guess them all! No Google! Since I have no prize to offer up, why not post your guesses below? I’ll reveal the answers next week. This will be the first in a series of game contests here at BGN, and hopefully they will get better as we go along.
And while I’m at it - why don’t more companies put their rules online? It simply doesn’t make sense not to - unless you
a.) Have a game that can be played with only the rules (an RPG-type game, or a game that is heavily rules dependent - like ASL), or
b.) Have a horrible game and wish to hide it from the public, or
c.) Have no computer skills.
So let’s see more rules posted online!
Here are the clues!
1. "The initial starting position of a Nation on the Political Track (marked by the individual Nation’s icon on the track itself) represents its diplomatic attitude at the beginning of the war”
2. "As a result, unless your group of players is made up of seasoned veterans who have all thoroughly familiarized themselves with these rules and appendices beforehand, we suggest you play your first game without a potential…”
3. "Move your pawn one or two steps in any direction on the board. Each room … is delineated by a color change on the floor and counts as one step, regardless of the room’s size. The move is mandatory and a 2-step move cannot be used to immediately come back to the same room.”
4. "Moving a unit into a space occupied by an enemy worker does not cause a battle.”
5. "The player who initiates the challenge, slides the challenging card forward (toward the challenged card) turns the card face up (if it was face down), and announces the strength of the card.”
6. "During this phase, the player order is determined. The leading player is the player with the most connected cities in his network…”
7. "It is possible to form 2 (or more) rows with only one move. If these rows don’t intersect, you must remove both and also remove two…”
8. "If the game ends as a result of events 1 or 2 (which will nearly always be the case) all of the players except the player ending the game, may have one additional turn each. During this additional turn the only action a player can perform is to consume one existing…”
9. "The player making the double-play can play pieces on both the first and the second (double-play) tile.”
10. "When all counters are placed each player reveals the 4 characters from his starting line”
11. ” The player who lives in the smallest house begins and lays one or more of his chips in the middle.”
12. ” The mixes of units differ for each colour. Some have more units of some types and less of others, some have better quality units, and so on. So, you should choose a colour that best suits…”
13. "The numbers on the cards are ignored when cards are played during the Construction Phase.”
14. "This is represented by coloured wooden cubes. When gained these are placed on the next free space on the corresponding track on the Player Mat.”
15. “Should it happened that a disc becomes lodged on the point of the tongue of land and cannot be moved by pushing…”
Well, that’s it for this time - I think most of the above are rather easy. See you on the Dice Tower in a couple days… (A VERY good prize forthcoming)
