TV Coverage Sells Out Súbete al Troncal
If any U.S. newspaper or televised news program mentions a board game in early 2008, you can lay dollars to donuts that the game is Don’t Drop the Soap, this season’s Ghettopoly in terms of egregious use of stereotypes for attempted humor.
Mainstream game coverage in Chile, on the other hand, focused on Súbete al Troncal, a card game from publisher Aldebaran Games inspired by the troubles with a new transportation system called TranSantiago. Súbete al Troncal received coverage on a television news station (video available online in Spanish), which was followed by an appearance on Alfombra Roja, which Aldebaran’s Juan José Fenández describes as “something like your E! Entertainment news.”
As often happens, TV coverage led to appearances in two newspapers. Says Fernández, “As you can imagine, Súbete al Troncal disappeared from the shelves and we run out of copies in 20 days!”
Aldebaran is now working on a board game version of a popular television show in Chile, which is sure to garner more press coverage down the road. Good work, guys!
