Two New Titles from Small Box Games for November
John Clowdus has a pair of new titles coming from Small Box Games in late November 2008: Raise the Ruins and The Great Potlatch.
The Great Potlatch is a title that won’t mean much initially as not knowing what a “potlatch” is makes you unsure of whether you should be happy or nervous about the prospect of a “great” one. In fact, the word “potlatch” comes from Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest and refers to their practice of giving gifts to redistribute wealth among various families. In The Great Potlatch, you represent one of these families and give gifts over a period of eight days, with the most generous family each day receiving the Speaking Stick and leading the next round. Doing so is important because copying someone else’s action hurts your reputation and costs you points, as does not offering enough.
In Raise the Ruins players need to make the right offerings to their deities in order to gain their blessings and rebuild their temples. Clowdus mentions that the game is available as an add-on for customers who already own Temple or as a stand-alone item.
Rules for both titles are available on the Small Box Games website with preorders now open. Clowdus says that Seii Taishogun will be available in a second print run with cards replacing the wooden counters and a new rule. Elemental Rift will also be available in limited numbers.
These games have been added to Gone Cardboard.
