Update on the Status of Games Quarterly Magazine

Mark Simmons has sent along the following update on the status of Games Quarterly Magazine: “There are no current plans for anyone to acquire the magazine.  I have nearly concluded negotiations with a game magazine that may pick up both GQM’s subscribers and the continuing game expansions.  An announcement should be forthcoming soon.”

Cool, good to hear something positive coming out of this for those of us that subscribed.

Oh, and if the expansions get published that would be great!

We probably still won’t see Die Katharers (see Jay of Rio Grande’s earlier remarks about restrictions imposed by Spielbox), but I wonder what else is in the works?  If the acquiring firm is more mainstream, then maybe a mix of AT, Euro and mainstream expansions would bring more to the hobby?  As long as they’re all not just Cranium extensions, I’ll be happy! :)

I don’t know what Mark has in the works for GQM, but I will note that when Games International went kablooey, Knucklebones picked up its subscription list and fulfilled the outstanding orders. Kbones hasn’t included any expansions to date, and frankly expansions would seem odd in that publication since it’s aimed at a more mainstream audience. Stand-alone games would be a better choice.

In any case, time will tell…

I am hoping it is Knucklebones.  I just started reading that recently and have been very impressed.  I’d like the expansions, but would be more than happy with just a K-bones subscription to replace my GQ one.
