Valerie Putman:  Live from Dragon*Con

I’m reporting on the boardgame scene, live from Dragon*Con in Atlanta, GA.  While D*C is primarily a science fiction/fantasy convention, there is definitely a boardgaming presence.  Of course, that’s not really why I come to this convention.  D*C is really my adult spring break.  So for a peak inside this crazy convention experience (with pictures), read on.  Mom and Dad, you might want to skip reading my article this week!

Tyler (hubby) and I left Columbus Thursday evening and drove to Atlanta, stopping overnight in the middle of nowhere Tennessee.  When we arrived early Friday afternoon, the convention hotels were already brimming with people.  We quickly unpacked, registered, and headed for the dealer room.  It took us a while to get there, though, because we kept stopping to ooooh and ahhh over lots of fabulous costumes.

While most of the dealer room is devoted to things other than boardgaming, there were three large boardgame dealers with finds such as Roads and Boats, Dark Tower, and Full Metal Planet. Z-man games had a booth and someone demoing games in the game hall.

After dinner Friday we started to indulge in adult fluids and the best part of Dragon*Con, the people watching, could begin in earnest.

I even got Tyler to pose with a childhood favorite, Rainbow Brite!

On Saturday I finally did make it to the game hall and found quite a few familiar faces and plenty of gaming.  Here are some pictures of the gaming hall, the game library, some gaming friends, and a close up of our Terra Nova game.

I’m having a blast!  The boardgaming scene has definitely improved over the last 10 years.  Join me next year….

Looks like a great boardgaming/people watching venue. You better keep your eye on Tyler, he looks like he is ready for a wild weekend.

Yeah. When did Rainbow Brite get so hot?

Clearly, I misspent my youth watching Thundarr.

Moo,
Frank
