Valerie Putman: Prose on Cons--The Gathering of Friends
Hello, from Columus, OH. (Okay, that’s nothing new.) Hello, from the Gathering of Friends! Woo hoo! That’s worth a snoopy dance! This will be a short column since I plan to leave the daily reports to Rick and just hang out with some friends and play some games. So far I’ve played the “airport run” game a few times and I think I’ve won every time--each time I’ve seen another friend that I haven’t seen in months. I have gotten to play Thurn und Taxis and a new prototype from Friedemann Friese. Both were quite enjoyable. Thurn und Taxis reminded me a bit of Show Manager and several other card collecting games along with some of the placement and connection aspects of Web of Power. It is definitely on my “buy” list now. I can’t tell you anything about Friedemann’s game...except the prototype had a lot of green pieces! I’m sure I’ll have lots of stories to tell later....but right now I’m going to go play some games!

ShowManager! I had just played Thurn Und Taxis and I said that it felt like a combination of Web of Power and ... I drew a blank, but you are right, ShowManager is it. Great game by the way. I thoroughly enjoyed both playings so far. Posted by David Fair on Apr 9, 2006 at 06:23 AM | #

I enjoyed the game, too, David. I look forward to playing it several more times this week. It’s a bit too light (about the same weight as Hacienda), I think, to become a favorite that I play many times a year for years to come, but it’s one that I will likely play at least once a year.
