What About Lost Cities: The Boardgame?
Reiner Knizia’s Keltis won the 2008 Spiel des Jahres earlier today, and while that’s great news for him – on top of winning the Kinderspiel des Jahres as well for Wer war’s? – how will the win affect gamers in English-speaking countries?
Jay Tummelson of Rio Grande Games had previously announced that he would release Keltis under a different title – Lost Cities: The Boardgame – to tie the game more thematically to its roots. Keltis is effectively a multi-player version of Knizia’s two-player card game Lost Cities, which has continued to sell well since its debut in 1999, so why not trade on the more recognized name? While that plan sounds like a smart idea, Tummelson says the SdJ win might actually delay the game’s release as Kosmos will be focused on capitalizing on that giant red poppel for the upcoming holiday season. “I still hope to release it before the end of the year,” says Tummelson.
That said, this game has still been added to Gone Cardboard to help gamers track its progress.
