Winsome Announces 2009 Essen Set

John Bohrer at Winsome Games has passed along brief details of the two games and five expansions to be included in the company’s 2009 Essen Set:

David V. H. Peters’ Kansas Pacific is a 3-6 player game lasting 100 minutes. This tactical railroad game is set in Kansas and features six important railroads from 1860-1870. The game has no luck and includes a new mechanism.

Eddie Robbins’ Baltimore & Ohio is a 3-6 player game lasting 3-4 hours. This grand strategic railroad game is set in the Eastern U.S. and features ten historical railroads from 1830-1900. The game has no luck, no auctions and includes new mechanisms. No play money is included!

Harry Wu’s Preußische Ostbahn: Berlin-Stettiner expansion brings another
railroad with a special ability into the game.

The Wabash Cannonball: Narrow Gauge expansion adds another powerful
dimension to Harry’s original game.

Gulf, Mobile & Ohio expansion #1 increases both the length and tactical
opportunities of GMO.

Two Age of Steam expansions are provided: AoS: Finland combines the Lakes geography and discrete linkage position of the country into an interesting game of opportunity and challenge. AoS: Portugal is a long thin map joining the mountainous north with the flatter south, with Lisbon in the center of this historical expansion.

Winsome will release only 80 numbered Essen Sets, all of which will undoubtedly be reserved long before the opening of Spiel 09. As he did in 2008, however, Bohrer plans to release an unnumbered version of this set for U.S. customers, with details to appear on this Geeklist at some point prior to Spiel.
