WizKids sues Wizards of the Coast over CSG Patent
On May 22, 2007, Wizards of the Coast announced that it had received a patent for “constructible strategy games” based on filings begun in 2002 related to a creation called “Punch Bots” that never actually appeared in print. The question that sprang to every gamer’s lips was how this might affect WizKids and its Pirates of the Spanish Main game, to say nothing of WizKids’ Star Wars Pocket Model Game, which is due for a Summer 2007 release.
Well, the beginnings of an answer to that question came today as WizKids filed suit against Wizards of the Coast, asking the court for a judgment stating that Pirates doesn’t infringe on the patent—which should be declared invalid in any case. For details on the suit, read this article on GamingReport.com.
