Playing Time: 20 minutes
Rules Language: English

For an overview of this new take on the Yahtzee line – an ever-replenishing resource for Hasbro on par with Prometheus’ liver – here’s Ted Cheatham with a video intro:
I’ll second Ted’s call-out of the packaging of Yahtzee Free for All as cool, but it’s so cool that it verges on unusable. First, you have the supplementary packaging that allows the box to stand upright on the shelf – you know, what other boxes do normally. The fold-out flaps that form each player’s home area don’t lie flat without struggle and repeated back-bending each time you unwrap the gameboard. The dice and cards are cocooned in a molded plastic shell that doesn’t release its treasure without major prodding. And the rulebook that unfolds into a throwing star is visually enticing, yet unwieldy.

June 17, 2008
Publisher: Out of the Box Publishing
Designer: Anita Janes
Players: 2
Ages: 7+
Playing Time: 2 minutes
Rules Language: English
Writing compelling taglines for games has to be a tough job. I say this based on the tagline accompanying Rock!, a card game published in June 2008 that reconfigures rock-paper-scissors into a speedy two-player duel. The tagline in question?
I don’t know – “rock” already sounds plenty fast, especially if you picture it zipping towards someone’s nugget, maybe a stranger who’s chasing you in the woods for no reason other than the secret documents concealed in your boot. But how would he know about them anyway? Have you been double-crossed? Or is he on the up-and-up? Did you just bean an innocent who wanted nothing more than to bum a cig off you? Too bad – let cheapy buy his own smokes!

A bumped review as I’ve played again and revised my take on the game. See below for details.
Ted Cheatham is back for a quick shot at the newly released Party Pooper:
For those of you who skipped Ted’s presentation, here’s a recap of the rules: Try to guess which player the current round’s host will identify as the most/least likely to do some specified task or challenge, whether it’s singing karaoke, taking a dip with the Polar Bear club, or going dancing with your teenage daughter. Guess well, and you’ll score a point; have everyone guess what you’re thinking when you’re host, and you’ll score lots of points.
