Catan to Be Packed with More Wood for 15th Anniversary
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the explosion of Klaus Teuber’s The Settlers of Catan across the world of gaming, Kosmos is releasing Die Siedler von Catan: Jubiläumsausgabe, a limited edition version of the game that includes wooden bits, wooden tiles, a wooden box, and rules printed on paper created from wood. The wrap around the box? Also paper, i.e. wood. The icon of Teuber? Carved from wood. The bonus baggie of sawdust? You know where that came from. More seriously, this edition also comes with the five- and six-player expansion, ergo more wood. Sheep not included.
Die Siedler von Catan: Jubiläumsausgabe is scheduled for release in September 2010 and will retail for €60.

People spent $400 for the giant boxed edition of Settlers released a few years ago, so I’m sure some folks will be happy to buy this one, too. Eric Posted by W. Eric Martin on Jan 27, 2010 at 01:14 PM | #

€60 doesn’t seem too outrageous considering that the 5 & 6 player expansion is included. (The combined MSRP for the Mayfair version of the base game and expansion is $62US.) I’m curious as to the actual look of the game. The photo looks like a mock-up to me (and I hope it is as the pieces look very crowded on that board).
