Gone Cardboard: Update from Rio Grande Games
After months away from the in-box, Jay Tummelson at Rio Grande Games has issued a new newsletter detailing what to expect from the company in the immediate future as well as over the next twelve months. Here’s what he had to say:
We released several new games in the past weeks including Piece o’ Cake, Imperial 2030, Factory Manager, Power Grid: Brazil/Iberia, Havana, Assyria, Valdora, Strada Romana, Ystari Treasure Chest, and Tobago. Next month, we expect to have reprints of: Race for the Galaxy, Race for the Galaxy: the Gathering Storm, Piratissimo, Space Alert, Galaxy Trucker, Galaxy Trucker Big Expansion, Dominion: Intrigue, Dominion: Seaside, and Bohnanza.
Next month, we also expect to release these new games: Krysis, Alea Iacta Est, Alea Treasure Chest, Priests of Ra, Vasco da Gama, Cardcassonne, and Shipyard. We are also working on several games that will release in early 2010: Macao, Egizia, Albion, and Race for the Galaxy: the Brink of War, and several reprints, including: Princes of Florence, Gulo Gulo, Viva Topo, Zooloretto, Aquaretto, Tichu, Felix, Fearsome Floors, and Caesar & Cleopatra. Also on tap for 2010 are: The Heavens of Olympus, El Caballero, Lemons & Lemonade, and two new Dominion expansions.
Note that some of the titles mentioned above as being released, such as Havana and Valdora, have not actually made it to stores yet; Havana has a December 3 street date in the U.S., as do the first three titles listed as being released, while Valdora has yet to show at U.S. distributors. These games have been updated on Gone Cardboard.
Edited Dec. 2 to add Piece o’ Cake to the list of games released in the past weeks, as now noted on the RGG news page, even though the game has not yet appeared in stores.

Eric thanks for posting this. When he says ‘next month’ do you know if he means January or December? The reason I’m asking is because you posted this on December 2, meaning that his newsletter may have come out in November. Posted by Jennifer Schlickbernd on Dec 2, 2009 at 10:52 AM | #

I was wondering the same thing Jennifer, but since there are some games for “next month” and some games for “early 2010,” I’m hopeful that the next month games are expected in December. Whether they actually make it in time is another thing, but I can always hope :) Very happy to see Shipyard, Alea Treasure Chest, Alea Iacta Est, Tobago, and Macao all on the list. Will likely pick all of those up, and glad to see Valdora there as I’d love to try it out. And good to see Imperial 2030 will be available to a wider audience since I’m enjoying the game a lot so far. Posted by Tom Rosen on Dec 2, 2009 at 12:16 PM | #

Although the newsletter was emailed in December, it was posted on the RGG website on Nov. 30; Jay has verified to me that “next month” means December 2009. He also said that Mogul will now be a 2011 release at the request of the German partner and Veritas is still in the category of “no release date.” Eric Posted by W.
