Nominees for 34th Origins Awards

Origins 2008 is underway, and the nominees have been announced for the 34th Annual Origins Awards. For the categories relevant to BGN, the nominees are:

Board Game or Expansion

Wow!  Those are pretty good nominations.  Sure, there is no Stone Age, Manoeuvre, or Pandemic, but maybe those were too late for their cutoff.

Most interesting. I have played only 2 of the board games and 1 each of the other 2 classes. Must get on the stick.

I still have problems with how these nominees are nominated: publishers have to submit them, and give a lot of free copies to the Origins team in order to get nominated. That means that if no good games are submitted this way, a lot of crap will be nominated and will eventually win. This is why this award has no value what so ever for me.
